Tensions are said to be high within the president-elect that of Donald Trump transition team after Elon Musk clashed publicly with Boris Epshteynone of Trump’s closest allies in what sources called ‘massive outburst’ on key Cabinet appointments.
According to three sources cited by AxiosThe dispute came to a boiling point during a dinner at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club last week, during which Musk accused Epshteyn of leaking sensitive details about the transition process, including potential personnel choices.
“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” Epshteyn allegedly retorted during this heated exchange.
The altercation highlights a power struggle as Musk, a newcomer to Trump’s inner circle, increasingly defends his favored candidates. Musk reportedly criticized Epshteyn’s influence in selecting Justice Department nominees, including Matt Gaetz for the Attorney General.
Musk is pushing for Howard Lutnickco-chair of Trump’s transition team, as Treasury secretary, facing Wall Street veteran Scott Bessent.
Despite the friction, Musk enjoys considerable support among Trump’s family and allies. Vice President-Elect J.D. Vancecommentator Tucker Carlsonand Trump’s sons would apparently appreciate Musk’s contribution.
However, the tech billionaire’s growing role in the transition has angered longtime Trump loyalists, who see him as crossing the line. Epshteyn, who played a central role in Trump’s legal defense in recent criminal cases, remains a key influence in shaping the administration.
Musk has not commented on the matter and Epshteyn referred Axios to the Trump transition team for comment.
