President-elect Donald Trump’s choice The chairman of the Federal Communications Commission said early Monday morning that the agency’s focus on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) will end next year.
Brendan Carr, who is currently the senior Republican member of the FCC, posted an excerpt of the agency’s message. budget request for fiscal year 2025 on X, which said its second most important strategic objective is the promotion of DEI.
“The FCC’s most recent budget request stated that the promotion of DEI was the agency’s second strategic objective (sic). Beginning next year, the FCC will end its promotion of DEI,” a Carr writes.
The only strategic objective stated before promoting DEI was to pursue a 100% broadband policy.

The agency said in part that it wants to “better understand how (its) rules, policies and programs can promote or hinder progress on diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.”
The goal would be achieved by pursuing “targeted actions and investments” to eliminate any barriers that “perpetuate disadvantaged or underserved individuals and communities,” the FCC’s 2025 budget states.
“Furthermore, the FCC recognizes “that it is most effective when its staff reflects the experience, judgment and contribution of individuals from many different backgrounds,” the section concludes. “Promoting equity is central to the agency’s management and policymaking processes and will benefit all Americans.”

The four goals listed after promoting DEI were: empowering consumers, improving public and national safety, advancing America’s global competitiveness, and fostering operational excellence.
Carr followed up his initial post with a GIF captioned: “Regarding the FCC’s promotion of DEI, I only have one thing to say: Afuera (get out)!”

Trump announced Carr as his choice for FCC chairman on Sunday, describing him as a “free speech warrior” and someone who “will ensure that the FCC Delivers on Promises for Rural America. »
Carr, who was originally appointed to the commission in 2017 during Trump’s first term and continued to work for the agency under President Biden, was unanimously confirmed by the Senate three times.
